Back when news of the Spiderman Reboot first hit, Community star Donald Glover started screaming at the top of his lungs that he wanted to be the new web slinger. A lot of the internet seemed to agree that he would be great.
Alas – Sony didn’t see the possibilities of a Spiderman who is naturally funny and not Caucasian, so we got that thirty something “teenager” from the Social Network. Having now seen some footage of the new Spiderman movie, I think Donald dodged a bullet there.
In a pretty cool case of Art imitating life – it turns out Marvel Comics was listening to Mr. Glover even if Sony wasn’t. Having killed off a perfectly good Peter Parker in the Ultimates Universe – they have seen fit to replace him with a kid named Miles! A kid who Glover could play in a Spidey flick with very little controversy!
It’s kind of funny – Sam Jackson has been cast as Nick Fury in the Marvel movies all because when they launched the Ultimates line of comics an artist decided that Sam Jackson would make a cool Nick Fury and drew him as such.
Now it would appear that Spiderman in the comics has been designed based on a pretty loud internet campaign pushing for Donald Glover to get a shot in the tights.
