Tron Legacy, Men in Black 3, Hangover2, The A-Team, Little Fockers, Wall Street 2, V-The Series, Hawaii 5-0, Yogi Bear, The Smurfs… Yes. Even the damn Smurfs. Is there not ONE original idea in production out there? Is there even ONE show that is NOT based on some earlier incarnation of something that already proved it’s ability to pry cash from the wallets of the masses?
The answer my friends is YES. Riese: Kingdom Falling is just such a property. Currently available to watch on the internet via the excellent SYFY channel website, the show tells the story of Eleysia, a dying kingdom where distrust and anxiety have clouded people’s minds, causing a regression into primitive ways of thinking. Rituals and mythology have re surged, and the darker side of mankind has begun to reveal itself.
Riese, a wanderer, travels across the decaying land with her wolf, Fenrir. Marked as a heretic by religious group, The Sect and the new Empress, Riese must evade their assassins and discover their true intentions for Eleysia.
All of us on the internet who cry about how the entertainment business has become a mining industry that just regurgitates what they have been able to turn into lunchbox licensing before need to stand up and support shows that actually have the audacity to be original AND intelligent. Riese: Kingdom Falling is just such a property.
Why this very cool show is relegated to “internet only” while the networks churn out so much “Jersey Shore/Housewives of Inner Mongolia” Reality TV drivel is totally outside of my realm of comprehension. See that? I’m watching Riese: Kingdom Falling for less than a week now and my functional vocabulary has improved by like 37% .
They should make an infomercial! Do yourself a favor and go check out the first 10 episodes for FREE on SYFY.COM; if you don’t like it I’ll personally refund your money.

In all seriousness; if we don’t support this kind of original programming when it’s offered, they’ll stop offering it and before you know it Shia LaBeouf will be cast as Michael Corleone. Is that the kind of world you want to live in?
